SAN RAFAEL, Calif. — The fifth annual Outside Lands Music and Arts Festival will take place in Golden Gate Park, San Francisco from August 9 to 11, 2013.

Since its genesis in 2008, the music festival has hosted a wide variety of musical acts from genres in rock, electronic, hip-hop, country and metal music including Radiohead, the Black Keys, Al Green, Deadmau5 and Stevie Wonder. Bringing in 40,000 to 60,000 attendees a day in 2008 — that number has since grown to 70,000 a day in 2012.

This year’s headliners include funk rock group Red Hot Chili Peppers, industrial rock band Nine Inch Nails, alternative rock band Phoenix, electronic DJ Kaskade, and ex-Beatle and singer songwriter Paul McCartney.

Last year’s sold out concert included funk artist Stevie Wonder, ex-White Stripes singer Jack White, and the metal band Metallica.

“We’re playing for the whole Bay Area!” “Hope you can hear us!”shouted Metallica singer James Hetfield when he took the stage in 2012’s Outside Lands concert.  The metal quartet was reported to be heard as far away as the Richmond District as the band ferociously played classic songs such as “Master of Puppets” and “Enter Sandman.”

Apart from the music, Outside Lands offers Wine Lands, Beer Lands, live painting, local clothing and jewelry, and a dozen food trucks.

Last year Wine Lands provided wines from Turley Wine Cellars, Caymus Vineyards, Mer Soleil, and Meiomi Wines. Beer Lands included beers from 21st Amendment Brewery, Heineken USA, Sierra Nevada Brewing Company, and Lost Coast Brewery.

About the author

I was born in Guadalajara, Mexico – a very Americanized city where the people are powered by Starbucks, available conveniently on every street corner. Then I moved, and grew up in the strangest place on Earth, Humboldt County. I was only three when I moved to the States, however I did come back to Guadalajara every summer up until my teen years. The two places are polar oposites – you can imagine my difficult time trying to find a personality in home influenced by Mexicans and a social life influenced by Americans. Today I live in San Rafael, California studying Communications. But enough selling out – I’m a laid back guy who loves pizza. http://theredwoodcurtain.wordpress.com/
