SAN RAFAEL, Calif.—Salman Rushdie, the famous award winning author of “The Satanic Verses,” will speak on Tuesday September 25, 2012 at 7 p.m. in Angelico Hall at Dominican University as a part of the Institute for Leadership Studies Lecture Series.

He will be discussing his new book, “Joseph Anton: A Memoir,”  which reveals his years spent in hiding after a fatwa was placed on his head by the Ayatollah Khomeini of Iran, ordering his execution for a one million dollar bounty.

The order was originally placed on Valentine’s Day, 1989,  because the Iranian government found his book, “The Satanic Verses,” guilty of blasphemy and unbelief in the Muslim religion.

Tuesday night offers a unique opportunity to hear from a true revolutionary thinker.

About the author

Brian Sanchez is a senior Communications and Media Studies major at Dominican University of California with an emphasis on Sports Broadcasting. When he isn't broadcasting sports for Dominican University on radio.dominican.edu he is writing about them. He is thrilled to have the opportunity to join The Habit in time to be a part of the launch of the web edition of the student newspaper. He hopes to cover all things Dominican to the best of his abilities and use that to land a job covering sports for a career after he graduates. It doesn't matter what sport or where, but his ultimate goal is to end up back in the bay area covering the teams he grew up watching.
